So this video is a bit strange but as mentioned on here before, Chromeo's first single 'Don't Turn The Lights On' from their new album Business Casual is flippin' deadly - and after seeing them live over in Lovebox/London the other week I already have tickets for their November 4th Tripod gig. DO IT. If you haven't seen them live you are missing out.

climaXXX at B-Bar Dun Laoghaire

The climaXXX soundsystem is delighted to be part of this years Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures. One of the best weekends going in Dublin,having graced it for the last few years we've often dreamed of bagging a slot at it. We'll be warming up for Favela Chic's DJ Tchicky & MC Taiwa fresh from Paris and will be joined by Schizofonics main man Shortie, possibly the bst DJ in Dublin representing all things bass for the night. There ain't much info on the gig online but there is an event page here with the rest of the weekends entertainment too. Expent lots of Baile and all of it's foreign cousins.

DJ Godfather back with the AssQuakers in the Twisted Peper

It's not just lovers of ghetto-tech who should be delighted at the return of DJ Godfather tonight, anyone with an appreciation for turntablism would do well to get on down to the Twisted Pepper basement to witness one of the masters of all things bass and booty in action. This guy can juggle and scratch like the best of them and the fact that he does it to ghetto-tech some of the most fun music you can shake your ass to makes it all the more fun. Upstairs in the Stage Breakdown launch their record label with the first release by resident Johnny Pluse "The Market St Hussle EP", with a whopper line-up to go featuring Breakdown front man Obese, Dirty Busters, Jay Sharp, Breakonomics and off course Johnny Pluse himself.

The Mezz sees the launch of brand new DnB crew Tribe, headed up by regular Mud spinner Bonz.

Yellowman in Dublin

Dancehall legend Yellowman is dropping by Dublin next month. This is pretty exciting stuff and another great coup for Dublin’s dancehall/reggae scene which just saw another legend in the shape of David Rodigan play the Sugar Club to a full house and Chaka Demus & Pliers drop by the Button Factory a couple of weeks ago. Back to the future though… and November 12th is the day to catch the most famous albino rudebwoi you are ever likely to meet. A proper legend of the scene, here is what happened last time he was here:

Worries Outernational are teh chaps behind this gig, bringing him over to their Dancehall Styles night, which has been running every Sunday for over 5 years, quietly surviving recessions, archaic licensing laws and that lazy Sunday feeling a lot of us get to bring a consistently good party week in week out. A Dancehall night may be one of the less obvious club choices for a lot of people, but if it wasn’t for these guys there would literally be nothing to do on a Sunday, the fact that they are still going is testament to their hard work and high standards. They have just started a new night in 'Le Cirk' Dame St too, strictly reggae this one (no dancehall). Go down and show some support for one of the city’s finest outfits.

Calling all budding producers! The Subs are playing Transmission this Halloween Sat (check out the promo vid here), ahead of this spooky date, they have provided you and me and whoever else wants with the parts to their new single ‘F*ck that Sh*t’. The lads apparently really want to hear what Irish producers are made of so stand up tall and do us 'No-Reason and Un-Abelton-ed' proud.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are playing The Button Factory this Saturday October 24th as part of DEAF- they played here a bunch of times last year and I managed to miss every show. They even played twice at the Electric Picnic and I missed both of those shows too -but the less said about that the better. I am determined to make it on Saturday - check em out:

Arvo Vs Wooly this Friday

Arvo is going from strength to strength right now, we will get an update from him soon with all his Misk related news (check that Mr Oizo remix out if you havnay already). In the mean time he is joined by old Dublin head DJ Wool of The Glass for another head to head sesh on the back of last year’s Sth William X-Mas bash. Straight up party tunes block-party style is what to expect.

Between them these boys have racked up the kinds of gigs young pretenders would splash themselves over. Both great showmen, this gig is deffo one to check out. Support from Dublins’ rising electro star Lorcan Mak whose bangin' tracks have been picking up all kinds of airtime recently. One to watch!

xxxchange in Dublin...

I will be doing some warming of the crowd this Saturday down at Transmission, before one XXXchange. A bit of a hero round a lot of parts, probably best known for his work with Spank Rock and his awesome remix work (hows about that Les Artistes remix), XXXchange has also produced albums for The Kills, Kid Sister and Amanda Blank. With associations like that it's easy to see why the boy is so damn popular.

I have only had the pleasure of seeing Mikki Dee a couple of times thus far but his technical skills and nice broad tune selection stuck in my mind. His latest mixtape, 1,2,3 Go! can testify to this, he dropped me a copy a few weeks ago and it has raised more than a few ear holes since. He will be starting his new clubnight in the Village this Friday with a bit of support from Mystro, Arveene and JB the Deejay. It will be a special AV set of which reports are pretty astounding. Free before 10pm, €8 after.
He will have a few copies of the mixtape to give away on the night, if you can't make it but want one anyways, drop me a mail and I will try hook you up.

Bank Holiday Zombie Fun

The Zombie Disco Squad drop by The Underground this Sunday. They play power punching electro numbers, usually influenced by Po-Co sounds like Baile and African stuff, they add that MachinesDon'tCare edge with the hopping basslines (I still can't bring myself to use the term fidg£t). I heard my hero Claude Von Stroke talk about them on some radio show, he was a big fan but ultimately Jesse Rose signed them to his Made to Play label. They also released on Man Recordings (see Po-Co reference) and Dirty Bird (see CVS reference.) You could do a lot worse this weekend.

Friday Night's Revenge

Nightflight continue their quality bookings trends, recent guests include (Ewan Pearson, Metro Area and Idjust Boys) with a visit from the very excellent 'The Revenge'. I can't claim to know much about The Revenge but I did stumble across the below rework of the Sister Slege classic 'Lost In Music' that has been floating the shit out of my boat all week. Now the Glimmers remix already gets a lot of airtime round my way but it takes forever to get going and when it does, doesnt last very long. This version is a good steady builder with a well packed kick throughout. Don't miss this chance to see the Irish debut of this remixer extrodinaire.

Sister Sledge - Lost In Music (The Revenge rework)

Q-Tip and Full Band This Friday

There is a lot of buzz about this gig and rightly so. Q-Tip is the man, it's impossible to underestimate the impact he with A tribe Called Quest had on Hip Hop, they changed it all, opening doors for so many in the process. Check the wiki article for more on that.
Q-Tip will be joined by some class of live band (although that term can sometimes be taken lightly in Hip hop circles - see Sugar Hill Gang last year) Either way though, this is going to be a killer night, expect all Dubin's old schoolers to be out in force, support from Tu-Ki. Arveene and Misk in Your Area

Local hero Arveene is embarking on a tour with seldom seen partner in crime Misk. The two lads are celebrating their forthcoming releases on Gung Ho records and will be showcasing a load of other quality remixes (including the excellent Inflagranti one I posted previously). Also appearing on the Gung Ho is a track by climaXXX rave-fave Detboi.

Arveene and Misk have been making music together for a while now but this is there first time doing shows together and they are going live. Tour Dates below.

New Night For Dublin (heavy on the BASS)

The lads behind Kettle are putting together a new Friday night for Dublin with an emphasis on BASS. So far so good then. Not sure if it will be weekly or fortnightly but will keep you posted.To start they have the excellent Si Begg over alongside Rian Ryan who is coming out of his short retirement especially for this night.
