Seperado: wild wild welsh

A few of us watched Seperado! at the weekend in the IFI - it's a movie made by Gruff from the Super Furry Animals. It documents his road trip around Argentina as he plays some shows and goes in search of a long lost Welsh cousin. Turns out a load of Welsh people emigrated there in the 1880s and there are whole towns with Welsh names and people speaking Welsh, which is kinda bizarre. It's a pleasure to watch as he drives about in amazing scenery, puts on shows to rooms of polite bemused locals while donning his power ranger helmet and generally acts as amazingly weird as usual. The soundtrack is full a bunch of his solo stuff too. Swoon.

If you are in any way of fan of SFA or Gruff (how can you not be?) I'd highly recommend checking this out.

A Dream Mix: more Aeroplane

Following Chewy's recent post about Aeroplane, here is another mix from the Beligian two - it's quality and even features the new Chromeo. Also included is a new favourite, 'My Kz Ur Bf' from Everything Everything, the Grum remix. ('My Keys, Your Boyfriend' for those of us not down with the kidZ and their incomprehensible text speak). So this video is a bit strange but as mentioned on here before, Chromeo's first single 'Don't Turn The Lights On' from their new album Business Casual is flippin' deadly - and after seeing them live over in Lovebox/London the other week I already have tickets for their November 4th Tripod gig. I very boldly mp3iiified this and can't stop listening to it. Not sure who Acorn Morocco is but he's from Jersey and the nerd in me loves a name with sweet alliteration AND assonance. This is quality. Nice summer vibe video too.

Rainy day recreation: Douglas Adams talks about some cool stuff.

This is a brilliant talk by Douglas Adams about a lot of things such as lemurs and kimodo dragons and some of the things he got up to researching his book Last Chance To See (about endangered species.) He is highly entertaining and amusing and he talks a LOT of sense about the world and the environment without being a sap about it, which is key. (It's hard to write about Douglas Adams without being a sap about it. I think the word ledge-bag sums up some of my feelings.)

(According to their myspace) Omodaka is the name of the project developed through a trial and error process of mutational fusion of music and motion graphics. It will knock over your existing image toward a music video by a beautiful trajectory.

DFRNT: dubstep

It might make sense to you when DFRNT says 'Accidentally played these chords out today, and ended up working an entire tune around them. Was in a bit of a 2562 mood with the rhythm. Watch out for the 4-4 switch-up on the second drop' about his tune 'Short Bus.' It sounds made up to me - like when Dan Ashcroft pretends he knows about wine in Nathan Barley. However fortunately for the world people like DFRNT are making the music and not me - I don't know much about dubstep but I know I like this and will be checking out more of this guy:

J.D. Salinger = integrity

J.D. Salinger died just over a week ago. Check out this amazing letter where he explains why he won't sell the rights to his 1951 novel The Catcher In The Rye, (which still sells 250,000 copies a year, 60 years on) about disillusioned teen Holden Caulfield.


"The weight of the book is in the narrator's voice, the non-stop peculiarities of it, his personal, extremely discriminating attitude to his reader-listener, his asides about gasoline rainbows in street puddles... he can't legitimately be separated from his own-first person technique. True, if the separation is forcibly made, there is enough material left over for something called an exciting (or maybe just interesting) evening in the theater. But I find that idea, if not odious, at least odious enough to stop me from selling the rights."

Oni Ayhun = CHOOOOON

A mate of mine sent me this video a little while ago and I haven't stopped listening to it since. I gather there was some mystery at first as to who Oni Ayhun was, but it transpires it is the guy from The Knife - Olof Dreijer. This tune OAR 003-B was released last year but if you haven't heard it yet get your ears ready - it's beautiful but at the same time makes you want to hear it REALLY loud in a club - in short, it's savage.



The OAR label is stocked over at the quality Clone Records (where The Hasbeens and Detroit In Effect are artists), or, if like me you prefer your music digitally you can pick up OAR 003 A and B for a mere €3.32 over at juno. ENJOY.
