Michael's Pets. In a good way. Kind of.

Word to your moms: there is some awesome shiznit in the window of the Irish Cancer Society shop on Camden Street - the window is full of old Fleetwood Mac and Talking Heads LPs and musicy things - going on sale Saturday July 3rd. But continuing my policy of being mesmerised by weird Michael Jackson merchandise I saw an old school Bubbles the Chimp(ly Sailor) toy with a story and song cassette, available inside the shop. (All in its original packaging!)

It's 60 of your earth dollars so I sure as hell can't afford it but if any of you clowns purchase it I'd like to come round and listen to the sing along cassette with you and Bubbles. But not in a weird way. (definitely in a weird way...)

This wiki article on Michael and Bubbles is highly amusing; apparently Bubbles tried to top himself in 2003 but rest easy: Since the closure of Dunn's facility in 2004, Bubbles has been kept at the Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida, where he is said to enjoy painting and listening to flute music.

Check out more of Michael's Pets here. (That sounds pretty creepy but I assure you it's just pictures of nice toys and not like, that dance guy Wade Whatsisface or Macauley Culkin or anything - shudder)

Aeroplane Essential Mix 500

Came across this by accident the other day, it's another quality mix from Belgian duo Aeroplane. This one is for It's All Gone Pete Tong's Essential Mix and the 500th edition of. At first glance the track list didn't look up to much but then I clocked Les Rhythm Digitales - Sometimes on there (one of my fave songs ever), then I spotted the dub version of Don't You Want Me Baby I thought hang on there! Then I spotted Friendly Fires -Paris and thought 'well, well, well'. Finally when I saw this whopper by Goldfrapp I let out a Grrrr noise. None of the above come close to what I did when I actually heard this mix though - it really is a monster. Go forth and stream from Aeroplane Mixcloud or below - (you can find my account here btw) or download from Discobelle here.

A plethora of Three Amigos clips

"In a way, all of us have an El Guapo to face someday - for some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big dangerous guy who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be the actual El Guapo!"

Realsound clases in Photoshop and Abelton

If you fancy unleashing that inner-creative within look no further than these fellas;  Realsound Dublin have been teaching people a thing or two about a thing or two for over a year now, with classes in music production, DJ-ing and Photoshop proving damn popular. The lads behind the project are some of the soundest heads you could hope to meet too which makes everything a bit easier (and alleviates the question of false advertising). Next module is Photoshop on 21st June full details here, that's followed by an Abelton course in July, perfect for DJ's looking to make the switch to production. Check out www.realsound.ie for more info or drop the lads a mail realsounddublin(at)gmail.com.

Bill Withers edit by Henrik Schwarz

You're too much for one man
but not enough for two
who is he
and what is he to you?

This is my favourite Bill Withers song and this is a savage edit by German tune-smith Henrik Schwarz. Some cold shit from Bill:

Moodymann 'I can't kick this feelin when it hits'

I've still got Chic inside my brain. This tune understands. Perfect for a post - bank holiday and it's still miserable outside - come down.

Chromeo / Acorn Morocco = You're so Gangsta (Rap)

I very boldly mp3iiified this and can't stop listening to it. Not sure who Acorn Morocco is but he's from Jersey and the nerd in me loves a name with sweet alliteration AND assonance. This is quality. Nice summer vibe video too.

Rainy day recreation: Douglas Adams talks about some cool stuff.

This is a brilliant talk by Douglas Adams about a lot of things such as lemurs and kimodo dragons and some of the things he got up to researching his book Last Chance To See (about endangered species.) He is highly entertaining and amusing and he talks a LOT of sense about the world and the environment without being a sap about it, which is key. (It's hard to write about Douglas Adams without being a sap about it. I think the word ledge-bag sums up some of my feelings.)

Check out some quality Adams' quotes here.
